Next Generation Access networks in the region of Greater Poland Voivodeship

Abstract: The European Commission is steering the broadband targets for 2025 towards Gigabit Society. Proposing that all public services should have access to 1Gbps Internet connection while all households should have connection of at least 100Mbps. In this presentation we will demonstrate Polish way of addressing this target. We will provide overview of how POPC program stimulates growth of NGA network across Poland. Moreover, we will provide insights about the way INEA is deploying NGA networks in the region of Greater Poland Voivodeship.

Biography: Dr Karol Kowalik is a telecommunications engineer, holding a PhD from Dublin City University in Ireland. He is the Technology Development Manager at INEA S.A. where he participates in many technological projects covering wide spectrum of technologies such as DOCSIS, WiFi, WiMAX, GPON, MPLS. Currently, he is responsible for technical innovation and validation on new ideas. His research interests include networking, switching, routing, network management, wireless and wired access. He has a number of publications in these areas.

NetWorkS! – sets standards of services for radio networks

Abstract: Last year was the 5-th anniversary of the NetWorkS! Company has been founded by Orange and T-Mobile for modernisation of networks owned by both MNOs. The project began in 2011 and lasted almost 3 years. Today, after 3 years since the modernisation completion it is possible to describe and summarise the project.

Biography: Mariusz Kaniecki is an electronic and computer science engineer, an expert at the Network Management Department of the NetWorkS! Ltd. He started career in 1996 at the Radio and Electronics Department in TP S.A. (currently Orange Polska S.A.). Since 1998 he was participated in development of mobile network for the ERA network operator (currently T-mobile Polska S.A.). From the very beginning the NetWorkS! was established, he took part in the Mobile Network Modernisation Project, ran for Orange and T-mobile.

The role of advanced eInfrastructure for research in the digital transformation era

Abstract: In recent years, ICT have been seen as the driving force behind many scientific endeavors allowing to overcome existing barriers in innovative domains such as astronomy, HEP, bioinformatics etc. To keep pace with their innovation, today many domains such as medicine, agriculture, humanities need similarly continuous and unlimited access to advanced eInfrastructure. Innovators in the digital transformation era, and so in many aspects of today's life, can no longer ask for tools and facilities in a service-based model (as a pre-specified service). This would limit their innovation. Thus, we point to the model that has been operating for years in terms of innovation in science as one of the most important paradigms of the upcoming human centric innovation. The presentation will show examples of eInfrastructure and its services in Poland and how they have influenced innovation in the areas such as: humanities, healthcare, industry etc. Now, the Next Generation Internet which is a key priority under ICT Work Programme of Horizon 2020, addresses the most significant technology drivers for human centric Internet innovation.

Biography: Dr Cezary Mazurek is the Deputy Director for Technology of Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) in Poland (www.man.poznan.pl). He received his PhD in Computer Science from Poznan University of Technology in 2004. His expertise and experience is focused on broadly understood network services of research infrastructures. For over 20 years of professional activity at PSNC he has been leading and innovating within interdisciplinary teams, in which computer scientists and researchers from different domains (e.g. life sciences, media, humanities) worked together to overcome the barriers in their research with the use of advanced e-Infrastructure. The very recent area of his research activity is focused on methods and models for Big Data processing as well as Next Generation Internet services. Since the very beginning of PSNC, Dr Mazurek has been working on development and deployment of research infrastructures in Poland and in Europe, integrating a variety of specialized software components into consistent systems for scientific experiments and end-user network services, including research digital libraries, interactive television, telemedicine. He has been the manager of numerous projects in those fields, which have always strong infrastructure component and are deployed within eInfrastructure operated by PSNC. For last 10 years he has participated in over 15 European research projects focused on new tools and services (e.g. GÉANT, Wf4Ever, EVEREST, eCloud, SCAPE). Currently he is a member of GÉANT Program Planning Committee and Software Coordinator in H2020 GÉANT Project. He is the author or co-author of over 100 papers in professional journals and conference proceedings.
